RedBall 2017

World AIDS Day is a day set aside to recognize the impact that HIV & AIDS have had on our society. More than 25 Million people have died of AIDS since 1981 and an estimated 33 Million+ people are currently living with HIV or AIDS worldwide.

Red Ball grew out of an idea to produce an event that would draw awareness to World AIDS Day on December 1st. The event was created as a means of drawing a different and diverse crowd to an event that would both mark the day of observance in a larger way and would allow for messages of prevention and support for those affected to be delivered to a larger audience while raising funds to support the mission of Denver Colorado AIDS Project (DCAP).

The first Red Ball was held in 2009 in an empty and still-under-construction residential building in Denver’s Lower Downtown district. The event was an experiment to see if DCAP could draw a different crowd with a new type of event. The inaugural Red Ball drew an attendance of approximately 200 people, featured designs from 8 local designers, hair and make up creations from 8 local salons, and showcased just 24 looks. The crowd response was very positive, and word began to spread of our new event concept.

In 2010, Denver;s fashion scene took notice of Red Ball, and the event grew by 250% to draw an attendance of 600, and featured designs from 15 designers, creations form 15 local salons, and 60 looks.

Over the years, Red Ball has brought together designers in all points of their careers, featuring creations from well-known successful local designers, and acting as a launching pad for other designers just at the beginnings of their careers. The event has featured talent from over 30 different local salons and make up teams, and has entertained audiences of over 1,000 each year.

Whether established or brand new, the talent at Red Ball has been as diverse as the audience the event draws. The one sure thing about Red Ball is that the experience will always be new, unexpected and completely memorable.
